Printable New Orleans Bicycle Route Map

Local Bicycle Maps NOLAThis map is printable or viewable on hand-held devices and has been a great free recourse for folks new to cycling in New Orleans who want to commute, run errands, get a workout, or just sightsee. The map is in .pdf format, so it can be saved to your device and referenced later without an Internet connection. Just remember to come back here for updated versions now and then. The next version (1.1) should be ready early 2012 (Done!). No Aps Required. The portal to all of my local maps and routes is my MAPS page.

Bike 2 Eat - Just released!

Bike 2 Eat No matter if you are cycling for business, pleasure, or just getting the blood flowing, sooner or later you will start thinking about food. Due to an overwhelming amount of Email inquiries, I have produced a reference for everyone who wants to grab a bite while out on their bike. BIKE 2 EAT is a collection of fourteen (so far) food or drink destinations where I frequently land for bike fuel. I will add more locations as I become enamored with new places. No one is paying me to list their eatery.

My Google Map collection of bike routes

NOLA Bicycle Maps on Google Maps Once we start cycling outside of the dense city center I shift my content to Google Maps. Google Maps are very interactive and allow me to include waypoint details, cautions, suggestions, and of course with Google Street View you can get a peek at the actual roads before you set out to cycle them.

My Google Maps may be easily accessed by mobile devices when coverage permits. Google Maps are however a challenge to print out in detail that is useful to cyclists. So I may duplicate a few of my Google Map routes to files that are more useful when printed out on a piece of paper. Completed so far on Google Maps are routes out of New Orleans to the North, East, and West that get you as far as Amite, LA to the north, Baton Rouge to the west, and Bay St. Louis to the east. Also completed are several routes to the South of New Orleans designed as day-rides. I cycle all of these routes myself at least once or twice a year and will update as needed. My Google Maps are located on the MAPS page.

Videos of bike routes

NOLA area bike route videos While Google Maps are a miracle of information sharing, they are not all that entertaining. I have shot quiet a bit of video footage of many of my routes leading out of New Orleans in every direction. They often inspire me to get out and ride, and sometimes remind me that a route was not all that much fun - saving me time learning that all over again. Great for bad weather days when you don't ride.

My flagship video is made up of three parts (four if you include the Deleted Scenes footage) detailing my bi-annual Ride Around Lake Pontchartrain. The route is 140 miles and I can still do that in one day. It is more fun to haul some camping gear and stop at one of the State Parks on the Northshore overnight. This video also shows two ways to get out of New Orleans by bicycle both to the east and the west. There is also a Google Map for each video. Access the videos on my VIDEOS page.

Photo essays of my major bicycle tours and expeditions.

Joey's North American bicycle expeditions I have snapped thousands of photos during my longer bicycle expeditions and include some of those images in slideshows here. From New Orleans to the Rocky Mountains, Western Canada, the Pacific Coast, Natchez Trace Parkway, and many river trails along the Mississippi, Ohio, and Missouri rivers are some of the trips included in the Bike Touring pages.

Along with the images for some of my trips are detailed maps of the routes and some sound files recorded along the way. Each photo is captioned with often interesting thoughts and descriptions of the areas featured in the photographs.
